How to Start 2021

5 Steps To Starting Next Year On A High

The ability to pause, reflect, and plan, gives us that step ahead to ensure we are in charge and mindful of the direction our business is taking. We need to be running our business, not the other way around.

Let’s talk about how you can reminisce and set up next year to be better than the last.

Time for reflection.

To end the year on a positive note it’s great to reflect on all areas of your business. Ask yourself these questions and write down your answers.

  • How did things go in my business this year?
  • What worked and what didn’t?
  • How much income did I earn? Both gross and net profits?
  • Review expenses. Where did I need to spend, and where can I cut back?
  • What areas of my business do I want to improve?
  • What are the businesses mission and values? Do I still align?

Plan for the next season.

To project a great year ahead start planning out your goals. Ask yourself these questions and write down your answers.

  • What do I want to achieve?
  • What is my projected income?
  • How can I reach more clients and achieve this income?
  • What steps do I need to make to achieve my objectives?
  • How do I want to feel in my business?
  • Where does my business need investing?

Set SMART goals.

Setting SMART goals will ensure that you set yourself up for success and gives you more realistic goals.

A SMART goal is:

  • Specific – What is your goal? Is it specific enough or is it too broad? What needs to be done for you to achieve your goal? Why do you want to reach your goal?
  • Measurable – How can you measure your progress? How will you know if you’re on track?
  • Attainable – Can your goal be achieved?
  • Realistic/relevant – Can you achieve your goal? Is the goal worth it?
  • Time – What’s your time frame for reaching your goal?

Break your goal apart into smaller goals.

When setting your big goals it can feel overwhelming, wondering how you are going to possibly achieve them?

The key is to break your goal down into smaller goals throughout the year. This will make them feel less overwhelming and more attainable.

Create a plan to reach your goals.

It’s all good in setting your big goals but the most important part is creating a plan to ensure you achieve them. You can do this by setting up action steps that will move you towards achieving your goal.

Conclusion.

In the daily grind of work/life, finding time to pause, reflect and plan can be difficult, but plays a vital role in our businesses.

As said in the book ‘The E-Myth’ by Michael E. Gerber, Only once you begin defining and taking control of your business, do you move away from being simply the technician, to an entrepreneur.

Is attracting (and converting) more clients a goal for next year?
